This week in weather: August 20, 2018

What a wonderfully cool day we had on Sunday. Cooler weather continues early in the week, along with the increase in monsoonal moisture as the week progresses. Warmth and drier conditions take hold later in the week setting the stage for what looks to be a great weekend. We also detail the wildfire smoke situation and provide an outlook on when the smoke may clear out.

Weekend Outlook: Canadian fires bring poor air quality and low visibility

Historical warmth and persistently dry conditions have spawned numerous wildfires across the Pacific Northwest and British Columbia over the past few weeks. With a change in our synoptic flow direction yesterday, thick smoke has pushed into the Denver Metro area creating reduced visibility and air quality. We examine how the smoke got here and how the forecast for the weekend is shaping up.

The week ahead: August 24-28, 2015

After a gorgeous Sunday across the entire Boulder area, the heat returns as the ridge of high pressure rebuilds from the south. By midweek, a system approaches, bringing a chance of storms back into our forecast. The past week has also been quite hazy/smoky, most prominently on Saturday. When will the smoke clear?
