Born and raised in Saint Louis, Andy has a Ph.D. in Atmospheric Science from the University of Colorado. He now works as an atmospheric scientist at NOAA in Boulder, focusing on improving weather forecasts using unmanned aircraft systems.
Thundersnow is real! It's actually a thunderstorm that has snow reaching the surface instead of rain. This phenomenon is extremely rare in the Denver Metro area, much more so than the East Coast of the United States. Thundersnow may only occur in our region once every five or ten years.
