Ben grew up in western Pennsylvania and holds both a bachelor's and a master's degree in meteorology. He currently works on a programming language tailored for scientists at Harris Geospatial Solutions in Boulder.
During the summer, keep an eye out for dust devils on the Plains! They look like tiny tornadoes and form when the sun heats the ground and causes a rotating updraft. Dust devils require dry ground and abundant dust, which hasn't been overly common here since the 2013 Flood.
