This Week in Colorado Weather: November 28, 2022

After a largely quiet and long Thanksgiving weekend, things get going quickly this week with widespread accumulating snow developing across the Front Range late Monday night into Tuesday alongside much colder conditions. Afterwards, the rest of the week will see moderating temperatures and generally dry/quiet weather, but we are tracking more snow in the Mountains on Friday. Read on for all the details.

This week in Colorado weather: June 13, 2022

The ongoing heatwave will last through Monday with near-record high temperatures expected once again. A welcomed cold front Monday night will offer a reprieve from the heat for a couple days, but the sizzling temperatures return in full-force later in the week. We’ll largely be dry the entire week ahead. However, signs are pointing towards a surge of subtropical moisture during the upcoming weekend into the Four Corners region. This will bring the chance of late-day thunderstorms back into the Front Range.

Fact or Fiction? What seamen know about sunsets

Centuries ago, before the emergence of BoulderCAST, humans looked to the flora and fauna for hints about what the weather might do. For instance, before it rained, it was often observed that ants move to higher ground, cows lay down, pine cones open up, frogs croak more rapidly, and trees curl their leaves. Over the years, we began to notice other natural clues to upcoming weather, and several weather proverbs developed. From the farmers of Medieval Europe, to the Native Americans that roamed the Southwestern U.S., almost every society and region has them. We will be examining the validity of established meteorological proverbs in a new mini-series where we ask, “Fact or Fiction?”
